It's been a while ........
What an odd year it has been. Actually make that almost 2 years. I, for one, would ever have predicted the long term changes the whole world would be facing as a result of this pandemic. Yet here we all are 21 - 22 months on & things are still topsy turvy.
I have had to reschedule weddings, in some cases a 2 or 3 of times. Sadly, some of my weddings were cancelled altogether. The prospect of rebooking venues & vendors, or hoping that borders would open to let friends & family into the country, were just too overwhelming. I still have 1 last wedding from the 2020 season to do in 2022!
My focus for Go Flowers NZ has definitely shifted to more everyday flowers as events of over 100 people (for the vaccinated) & only 25 (for the unvaccinated) remain under threat of a new outbreak. I cannot lie. It has been stressful as a small business owner.
Moving on! I am a natural born optimist. I can’t help myself. I look for silver linings everywhere. Always thinking that there will be a positive outcome. It’s what keeps me going. I know I have a lot to be thankful for & that my problems are small in comparison to many.
One major thing that happened in October this year was the birth of my first grandchild. Little Zinnia Rose, our little flower babe, was born on 12th October. An auspicious date as that was my late father’s birthday. Had he been alive he would have turned 91 this year. My father’s death, when I was 16, was an event that affected me significantly & shaped the course of my life in a big way. I can’t help but think Zinnia has a great future ahead of her. As she lives in the US I have to make do with FaceTime & lots of photos until I get to meet her in person.
So now we’re counting down to the end of 2021. How crazy is that? The last few months have been a bit of a blur. I’m truly thankful for all the wonderful customers who have supported my little business since we came out of Lockdown. I would be lost without them. So if you’ve bought flowers from me this year I thank you.
I got really excited today while unpacking a box of Gloriosa Lilies. One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how excited I get when the season begins for a new product. Recently it was Paeonies. Now as their season draws to an end something equally delightful takes their place.
Happy Summer!
